Here is a great how-to by Wayne Greham and Marc Belanger on setting up the torsion bar. It is written for the 944. As far as I know the process is identical on the 924.

Wow, nothing but trouble for you guys, eh?
Here's the first paragraph just to show it is possible to get -
http://us.share.geocities.com/aus951/images/gallery/tbar0z951.doc wrote: | TORSION BAR INSTALLATION
Article by Wayne Greham, based on procedure written by Marc Belanger.
At some point you may decide that you would like to adjust the ride height of your 944 or firm up the suspensionont end. The 944 uses torsion bars instead of springs in the rear suspension. My 87 944 turbo had 23 mm torsion bars in the rear and I had decided to upgrade them to 29mm. 29mm bars were recommended as being a good match for my 300lb springs and my desire for firm but street-able suspension. The torsion bars are located within a tubular housing running the width of the car and just in front of the transmission. One end of the torsion bars is locked relative to the body (the end within the torsion tube) and the other end connects to the wheel stub axle via an end-cap (Fig 1- item 2) and spring plate (Fig 1- item 6). Some minor (+/-10mm) ride height adjustment can take place at the spring plate by adjusting an eccentric bolt (Fig 1- item k). Beyond that level of adjustment it is necessary to remove and re-index the torsion bars. Re-indexing just means rotating the torsion bars or the end cap that attaches to them in order to change the angle of the spring plate (and therefore ride height). Tilting the spring plate further up actually lowers the rear. |
If still no luck, try this much of the link - http://us.share.geocities.com/aus951/images/gallery
-it should show an index of files...scroll down to "tbar0z951.doc", right-click it and save. Beyond that, I don't know what to tell you - I'm all tapped out. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

When I get home I'll put a copy on a real server and post a link to it. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

An Excellent write-up! Not as involved or complicated as I thought. His explination of indexing the torsion bars made perfect sense.
