What would be a fair labor price to replace the engine in an 82 931? Does anyone know the "labor hours" shops use to calculate this? Off the top of my head, I guess $500/US. The job is for another member of this list, so I want to be as fair as possible.

| I will check my labor guides when I get back to work. But, I just removed the engine from my 81 931 and it took aprox. 4.5 hours. |

I guess I did mine realy fast, and it was my first 924 engine removal.
My labor guide at work puts engine replacement w/o transfer of parts(alt.,manifolds,ect.) at 8.9hrs. add .8 w/ A/C.
And complete engine removal and rebuild w/ A/C is at 31 hrs!
my shop rate is $59 per/hr thats an alarming $1829.00 in just labor!
No wonder most off us do the work our selves.

Your time sounds about right on Mike.
4.5 hours for removal, and another 4.5 for installation and you get your 9 or so for replacement right?
Can you tell me what your book says for clutch replacement in a 931?
Dan, your $500 does seem reasonable for what I guess would be a direct swap? _________________ Sid

My "book" is realy alldata pro. It is a auto repair shop service program. but it is true labor times and that is what I use for billing at my shop. Just thought I should let you know. here are the labor times that you asked for:
clutch disk replacement is 12.2 hrs
to remove flywheel add .4hrs
thanks, Mike _________________ 1981 931 series2 |

Thank you guys for the info. I guess I'll go with the $500. The old engine is an 82 and mine is an 80, so the flywheel with have to be switched.
Thanks,
Daniel
