My car has been stripped bare,
all sound deadening and brackets not needed removed
cut out the spare wheel cavity
i am looking at replacing the front screen and all windows with lexan,
purchased fiberglass bonnet and bumpers
replaced wheels with 944 turbo lighter versions
removed brake booster (as it was too heavy) and am putting in a pedal box with front rear adjustment,
get rid of mechanical injection, looking at running quad throttles with efi,
thinking about getting rid of huge alternator and replacing with lighter jap version,
cutting doors out so just skin is left, thinging about replacing skin with fiberglass
removed lights and jsut have covers
basically i have gone really stupid in making my car as light as possible _________________ 1982 924 Race Car

Just remember if you want to race the car you will need to have the side intrusion bars in the roll cage. Under Motorsport NZ rules as soon as you dick with the doors - even just removing the windo winders you need side intrusion bars.
Who did you buy the fibreglass bumper and bonnet from? I know I used to supply most of thes items in NZ so would be intereted to know who the competition is in supplying these.
Years ago I got a place called Ultra light (based in Ardmore) to make me a rear screen. They used to make helicopter canopies and the back window was pretty good (99% of the people didn't realise it was a palstic version) - except I stuffed it two years ago when I smacked my car. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,

Stripped with me in it 2400. I am 176. Pounds not age but close. With a roll cage and stock seats. Track days just a race seat so subtract 30 lbs and I don't know the weight of the cage. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

I got my fibreglass from Paul too - great guy to deal with!!
I was told you only need the MR10 for the side if you need an Authotity card, which I guess you don't! _________________ Andrew

Come to think of it Robert, I've got some plastic side windows here that aren't MR10 if you want them. _________________ Andrew

2350 with a full tank of gas, all steel, no fiberglass or lexan.
HVAC unit? We don't need no stinkin HVAC!
Air conditioning? This is a Porsche, not a Benz.
Bumper shocks? I'm not convinced these are going to soak up any more impact than aluminum brackets with accordion style brakes, and they weight about 15lbs more each. They only stuck them on there to comply with the DOT regulations.
Interior is generally pretty light, door panels, carpets, headliner and dash etc can all stay... They make the car more liveable. Sound deadener, rear seats, no excuse for that.
Good place to get rid of weight are the front seats. A good pair of aftermakret buckets will weigh about 30lbs less than the original seats, and provide much more support.
Convert to alloy trailing arms, coilovers and ditch the torsion bars. Big gains to be had here, especially since it's unsprung weight. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Mine is 2148 with fiberglass hood, plexiglass rear screen etc. The supercharger adds about 25lbs though.
Lots of weight to go at in the sound deadening matts in the floor and over the tank, also chunks of the stuff behind the dash and in the door and rear quater panels.
Cheers

I wondered who was buying some of the fibreglass bits I was supplying to Paul. I'm just making some bumpers for Paul so I guess Robert will be the end user of these. I haven't sold him a bonnet (hood for the Americans)for a while - so guess he's made his own mould now. I know he took moulds off the rear flares of my GT (when I smacked teh car and it was sitting around waiting for repair) a couple of years ago - seen the finished articles on a couple cars recently and they looked smart. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,

That's good cause I doubt whether I'll have them by Christmas. I haven't raced the Porker in the South for years - in fact I think I only ever raced it once on the mainland.
Where are you based?
I've an old historic racer (Lotus 7 style thing) based in Nelson which I used to use over in the South Island - currently it's in storage till I decide whether to race it again. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,
