Guy's,
i remember there being some discussion a while back about the Eurorace heads. Did anyone fit one of these to their 931 in the end? Any differences, good or bad??

I was going to but was talked out of it.The reason being that unless you're going to put on a bigger turbo the head won't breath any better by just opening the valves. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

And FYI you can just buy the oversized valves/seats from Eurorace for $30/$10 ea. respectively. This comes to $320 for the goods and my local engine builder said he could install them all for $200 Cdn.
All in all much cheaper than the $1000 Eurorace wants to do it and no shipping to boot. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

Why don't you talk to John Mitchell down in Bournmouth? - I know it all ended in tears on this board, but he's got an excellent reputation in the UK

Why is it that no one, NO ONE, in the Porsche Club of Great Britain has anything to say about this guy? Not one person could supply me with personal experience with him, and yet he is supposed to be well known for his Porsche expertise. I find that odd.
Add to that the fact that he thinks that if you buy his head you can't buy anyone else's to compare the two, but that is another story altogether.
F'ing shame he stomp'd off without ever proving any of his theories. I still have not seen a single 924 with Jon's wonder head installed in the UK. Why is that?
But if you want the big valves you can get them from Eurorace, and just about any other VW specialist. I recommend stiffer springs, and titanium wherever possible. I've put together a complete stainless/titanium package for the NA head's valve train for around $400 sans the cam.
Kenodog is correct that the 931 head flows as much as the stock turbo system can produce and bigger valves reportedly do not make significant improvements in the turbo application. _________________ MJ

If you try Titanic (UK 944 mail list) or TIPEC I think you'd find plenty of good feedback about him.
Maybe, like most of the rest of the world, he just doesn't get on with Americans _________________ current - '90 944S2, '00 986S,

Yeah maybe that's it.
Maybe it is because the point is moot since someone here has clearly shown what needs to be done to the head to achieve the changes. _________________ MJ

it took him almost a year to deliver on the turbocharger i purchased from him, despite numerous attempts at contact. he claimed the turbo was "lost" by the mail, but never provided tracking info for it, or any other evidence it was ever even shipped, despite several requests for that information. when i finally did recieve a turbo from him , im still not convinced i got what i paid for, which was supposed a "better than factory" completely remanufactured unit, xrayed for stress cracks, or magnafluxed or what ever they do to check the metal, and a bunch of other high tech testing and better than factory replacment seals and such. when i recieved the unit finally, my first stop was a machine shop to have one of the flanges redone, as some the mounting bolt holes were oversized and would not take the factory studs costimg me another $100 or so on top of the $700 plus i paid for a top of the line unit, so i have my doubts to what i actually recieved, there were no documents or proof of said "testing and checking."
ive put about 2500 miles on it and its holding up so far, but the whole experience left me rather dissapointed. if not for the pressure applied by the members here, i dont think id of ever even of got the unit... i was very close to filing a fraud claim with my credit card company when it arrived.
he may "know his stuff" and he may be a nice guy, but i wont do business with him again, its simply not worth the stress... _________________ Eric

I think you just hit a subject that we are all still interested in. I'm done though, nothing more to add from me. _________________ MJ

Whoa there people!!
EDH, do you have a contact number for this guy in Bournemouth? As I'm here in the UK, it won't hurt to ask.
Kenodog, is there anyone in particular i should speak to at Eurorace? And what exactly am i asking for??
As for the purpose, i am building a new engine for next year, with a beefed up Subaru Imprezza turbo, Emerald EMS, Jenvey thrrottle bodies ect ect. I get the feeling that these bigger valves, once treated to a 3 angle grind, should be pretty much all i need to do to the head, except a little P&P.
Regarding valve springs fo rthe turbo, has anyone any recommendations for a suitable, uprated replacement??
EDH, yeah i know the Titanic mob, i am an acitive member on the GT3 side.
Thanks all
Steve |

I've got a Eurorace head, it is sitting in my basement at the moment ready to be assembled with a spare bottom end I have. Of course, it is not a 931, just a 924, but I'll definitely update the board once I get everything assembled and installed in the spring. I've got the machine work done on the block, just waiting on the crank and flywheel from the shop, then I'll assemble.
Head stats:
44mm Stainless Steel Intake Valves
35mm Stainless Steel Exhaust Valves
Port and Polish
Special Racing Guides
RaceSport Valve Springs and Retainers
Stage I Cam 233x470
Combined with 9.3:1 pistons, no Cat, Audi 5000 throttle body.
I'm not expecting massive power, but there should be some noticeable gains. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
