|

On my 85 924 euro i wanna change the rear drums to discs while still keeping same bolt pattern since i know theres the 944 conversion but i dont want that since i just spent over a $1000 in rims. Is it possible to put 924s rotors and what not on it? or was 4 wheel discs a option back then? _________________ Go hard or go home |

All of the four wheel disc brake 4-cylinder 924/944 family of cars have 5-bolt wheels.
You are out of luck is you expect to keep you four bolt wheels and move to a Porsche four wheel disc brake solution.
This is why I recommend doing the conversion to four wheel disc brakes, before buying new wheels. Besides the improved braking performance, and reduced maintenance schedule, you get the added bonus or the Porsche 5-bolt pattern which will get you many more available wheel patterns.
The best advise I can give you is to contact the some of the other members of this message board who have the disc/drum brake setup who are not willing to listen, and are getting ready to lay down the bucks for new four-bolt wheels and tires. Make one of them a deal to minimize your loss the the four-bolt stuff. |

you could do a bit of study and see what the VW Beetle (original beetle) do for rear disks. I've seen a few rear disk kits for beetles advertised. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

At one time the kits for Bugs used calipers for Porsche 914s. This was one of the reasons that 914s were on the Top 10 Theft List for several years.
Another part stolen for use on Bugs were the Fuch forged 15" four bolt wheels which weighed less than 10lbs each (and cost of $600 each at the time. |

I've converted to Peugeot 405 disks on the back of mine. I machined the drums down so the disc would slide over the top and modified the backing plates to mount the calipers. Even the handbrake cable worked with a simple spacer!
I have pictures if anyone can host them for me? _________________ Andrew

I'm planning to do this conversion with my wife's NA for a couple of months now, haven't got the time yet. I was planning to use some Audi rear discs and calipers, cut the drums to just have a disc with bolt holes and mount the Audi discs to them. Then obviously fabricate the caliper mounts too. But if someone's got a working solution, I'm all ears and eyes _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

I loked at the audi ones but from memory the Peugeot ones had a better off set, but I think they'd still do the same job. The handbrake was so easy to rig up on the Peugeot ones that it would be worth looking for those first. I'll take a picture of the handbrake linkage after I get back from the Targa Tauranga next week. _________________ Andrew

I worked late putting another trans in my 924 (nearly midnight) so I'll post those in the morning. They look good.

Ok I am officially confused by those pics. Four bolt discs... with flexible hose to the caliper... caliper hanger attached to the backing plate... shock with a spring over it...
Looks nothing like my car! _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev
