Look what I just scored:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4541228165
This will be for son number two, who just turned 15 ... that gives me a year to work out all of the wrinkles. Hoping to see it in person tomorrow or Wednesday evening. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made

I was looking at that one.It looks like it's got some kind of intercooler where the oil cooler would normally be.You gotta let me know what they used.Please. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

Heck yes, good buy. It looks like someone has spent some time and effort on this car in the past. Intercooler, fixed headlights, rubber charge tube, bonnet clips, widebody kit, trash cans, k&n, nice paint and interior. Most of that stuff is on my list of things to do! Looks like this one needs some spacers or larger offset wheels on the rears tho, they are sitting so far in.
Also keen for the fixed headlights... Crunchie - care to save on planning/shipping/fabrication and tackle this one together? _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev

i was "this close" to bidding on that puppy..litteraly.. jumping up and down.. pacing.. trying to figure what i could sell to make up the money...but finally i talked myself out of it by taking a look at my poor 931 in pieces in the garage..yeah that one would probably cost me less than what i have planned for this one..but i had stay loyal in the end..but it was soooo tempting..
Best of luck with it , and Congrats!! I look forward to getting more info on it, there is definatly allot more to that 931 than in the auction description!! _________________ Eric

I'm going to be coming over to check out the mods on that puppy. Good score Dan. I knew that was you who asked about coming down and test driving it.
Let me know if you need a hand going down to pick it up or anything. _________________ MJ

Update...got an email from the owner and looks like I'll be able to go look at it tomorrow night. I brought my digi cam, so if it works out, I'll post better pix tomorrow night. The only problem may be light ... it might be dark by the time I get from Indy to Covington, we'll see.
Mark, I may take you up on the offer to help me fetch it. I have a call in to one buddy with a truck already, but you were my next call
We'll know more tomorrow night. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

OK, here's the text update:
The body is completely rust free, very clean, very straight, very solid. There are four major deficiencies with respect to the body: 1) the front fiberglass valance on the driver's side is damaged; 2) the custom fixed headlight covers are marginal; 3) the rear quarter panels are the weirdest things I've ever seen. Furthermore, they're riveted right to the stock body. The good news is that the original rear quarters are fully intact aside from having a few rivets popped thru them; 4) the paint job is marginal in spots.
The rear quarter flares are squared off on the sides. Very strange. The kit is not made by AIR or GT-Racing, and I'm trying to get contact info for the previous PO(!) to see if I can find out where they came from. The mounting technique is bizarre...or maybe it's just that whoever mounted them didn't finish it off to the same quality as the front quarters. They might be salvagable with some effort, but if not, it shouldn't be too hard to get GT-Racing rear quarters to replace them with. Aside from the rear quarters and the crack in the front valance, the car is in wonderful condition.
I think the car might be a euro, but I need to research the VIN. It definitely has euro bumpers, but who knows if they're original. The headlight conversion kit is custom made. It's a cool idea, but the covers aren't very good. However, the whole headlight concept might provide an excellent starting point for making a reproducable kit (hint hint, Mark!).
The interior is friggin' amazing. Black leather is in fantastic condition considering it's age. No rips or tears, only some very marginal wear on the piping. The dash is cracked (of course), and the shifter boot is torn. Carpet is in amazingly good condition as well.
The thing fired right up and ran great. Pretty strong, but not as strong as I expected. I could hear the turbo spooling, but I think there is a serious vacuum leak. The turbo boot that attaches to the intake was not on straight and clearly not sealing properly. It also has a boost gauge added which I believe is leaking badly 'cause I could hear it hissing in the engine compartment under heavy acceleration. The current owner has no clue about the motor, so I wasn't able to get any useful info regarding the oil cooler. It is mounted directly behind the passenger headlight in a vertical orientation. You can sort of see it in one of the pix links above.
The tranny is silky smooth ... it's the dog-leg style. No grinding, nice clean shifts. The suspension felt a little "floaty" to me compared to the 81 NA, so it might need some attention. Problem was, it was too dark for me to really investigate. The brakes were also strong, but again, visual inspection was not an option. As expected, there were a couple of electrical gremlins ... blinkers, power mirrors don't work. Everything else checked out. The combo gauge and tach were aftermarket versions. The car had the AC switch in the dash, but it had been deleted from the motor.
All in all, this is a very solid foundation. With a little effort and $$$, it should be a totally bitchin' ride. I'm planning to drive it (or tow it) home next Thu or Fri. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Just noticed this: where is the bonnet scoop or NACA duct? It needs a CGT scoop to go with the flared pants. _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev

without the NACA duct, the exhaust manifold will be more prone to cracking as it needs that for cooling. _________________ 3 928s, |

The ducting has been routed to an opening in the front valance below the passenger side driving light, as pictured in this enlargement, so I'm not too worried about heat gain.
But you are right, macBdog, the wide body look is not quite complete without the hood scoop. Easy enough to add later.
Lizard, plans are still on for end of April. I had an unexpected windfall from my tax return which is why I jumped on the 931. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made
