For all you UK followers, the BBC Top Gear gear team, Clarkson et al, have just been outside my offices in London with their cameras and a 924, 944 and 928 which they look to have picked up on the cheap, arguing about which one is best. I did my best to defend the 924 against the usual barrage of insults.....(and set beanpole Clarkson straight on a few niceities of the 924 engine - Van engine blah blah blah!). No idea when it's going on air. I guess I had better tell my Mum.

You shoulda grabbed one of the cars and mowed Clarkson down with it mate... I can't stand that bloke!
Dilema now is whether to watch out for the program or not, on the one hand they may sing the praises of the 924 and I'll be super happy.. on the other hand they might slag them off something rotten and I'll be fuelled with blood-lust rage wanting to kill someone...
Article about the 914's in the Independant newspapers motoring supplement today and there was a double page spread about the Porsche Festival at Brands Hatch in the one from the 7th Sept. I'll have to see if i can scan them at home and pop them into some webspace.. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

I think it was Top Gear that did a piece on the 1968 Dodge Charger. They did a good job. Well I like that year charger anyway 1968-69.
Lets see what they say. _________________ 1982 924

318, 383.... 440.... or..... 426 Hemi?
I must admit.... it was the Dukes of Hazard that hooked me on the 69 charger... Though I can also say that my Father once owned a 69 Charger RT/SE with 383 4 barrel.
This was his.

I have a couple of money pits on my property:
1971 VW Beetle Cabriolet (US Spec LHD) - undergoing full body resto
1979 Ford Fiesta 1.6 (ex works car, 10th position on 1979 Monte Carlo rally) - full resto
and of course the 924 _________________ 1981 Porsche 924/80 Porsche 931 GT rep |

Aw, c'mon, Clarkson's a classic!
I'm guessing he probably hasn't got too many kind words for the 924...
After all, I've heard him refer to the new GT3 RS as a "jumped-up Volkswagen beetle." (which I actually thought was pretty funny)
Can't wait to see the show (if it comes out here) _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

yes - but it was more light entertainment than motoring piece
apparently the 928 was losing water because a hose had come adrift - should have been pretty easy to fix, but not good TV.
Having just sold a 924S for well under GBP 1500, I know that they could have found better examples if they wanted to, but I guess that wasn't really the point. _________________ current - '90 944S2, '00 986S,

Yeah, just find a pub or hotel with cable TV (not too hard. I don't have cable at my place). We get a couple of ESPN channels and Fox Sports. Possibly some others. The free-to-air channel SBS sometimes shows the major games, too. But I think they're delayed.
The tricky part will be convincing the bartender to put it on! Not too many Gridiron fans down here, mate! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
