For those of you who want to shorten the distance from the bumper end to the body of the car you have remove the bumper then the shocks.
Cut the back off the shock with a chop saw or hack saw. The latter will take longer.
The shock is filled with oil so get something to catch the oil.
After you cut off the back you will see that the guts of the shock comes out. So remove the metal etc. On the front remove the metal and rubber bits on the front of the bumper.
Now gently push in the shock front through the base until you measure about 3.25 to 3.5 inches from the tip of the shock to the base. Weld at the base.
Replace the shock on the body and put on the bumper.

Looks nice right.

I was thinking about doing this mod the other day, but I wasnt sure. Lets say, God forbid, you collide with something, what kind of damage could be expected?
Have you got any pictures of the car after the bumper was put back on?

it increases the chance of bending the frame but these are only really good at low speeds under 60km/h I believe not sure though.

At about 5mph the shock will collapse. After that you are on your own.
Try not to have accidents.
If the hit is a strong one you will have to repair a lot of parts with or without the change in the shock.

Then again if it is not for you don't do it. I park all my cars far away from other cars in parking lots and so far so good. My rubber on my 931 Euro is still perfect after 2 years because I park away from others. This is in NY.

yes you can bent or twis the frame/unibody on these cars. and if you park away from other cars great or if your like me and hate exercise park close I have never been hit, and if I saw someone hit me I would shoot him

Just food for thought-On my road race car I was rear ended at about 50mph on a waived off start by a toyota corolla-It was a real hard hit and looking back the corolla had pretty significant damage around the headlight area of his car-I just knew my poor 924 was tweaked bad in the back. After the race it turns outI had a 6inch white paint rub I just buffed out. I am unable to get to min weight but feel the trade off is worth it from a safety and bodywork standpoint. Remember this IS a Porsche engineered car.

How about windage/scraper trays? I'm trying to find one - do you know of anyone who's made one?

The picture in the previous posting is what the front of my car will look like when finished. I already cut the shocks and on the bumper filled in the holes where the large rubbers were. Looks just like the picture except with a 944 nose.

One problem with the above set up. The turn signals alone leave a space that has to be filled for a perfect look. The large rubber fills the space with an extension that fits between the bumper and the turn signal.

I will photo the car and send in the pics. It will be in primer but I guess we cannot be choosey. Rear flares were cleaned up and smoothed and just bolted to the body. Seams filled. The car will look goofy because of all the primer in spots I worked on.

I personally don't like it. I like the stock "rat nose" look of the 924. it is nice.

What are the benefits of doing this upgrade aside from cosmetice reasons? I was once told it was to move the center of gravity back a little more, but that doesn't make much sense to me, how a little part such as a fender can cause so much weight difference.

It wont do squat for center of gravity, measurable only in formula. It is mostly only cosmetic. I for one have already taken the bumper of and i am heading for the cutter in a bit.

I was thinking... wait I cant say yet till im done.
