|
|
Hello!
Ok I have 924 1983 with 2.0 engine. My distributor died and im trying to get a new one. I couldn't find a distributor for exactly for the same year car that i have but i found one for 1980 924. The distributor looks exactly the same as mine but im not sure if it's completely same. So my question is that did porsche use same distributors for older versions of 924 than mine or are there some differences? |

Here in the U.S. we had three different distributors for 924NA cars. I think one was for 77-79 cars, one for 80 cars, and one for 81 and later. In the U.S. we never got distributors with mechanical points.
The early Euro models had mechanical points. I think that Euro models never got the 80 U.S. model distributors, and they probably went straight to the distributors used on 81 and later U.S. cars. |

PET lists only one distributor with P/N 477.905.206.X
The one you have should work on your car. The distributor you've found (http://info.rockauto.com/Cardone/Detail3.htm?/31/31963-01.jpg) looks like designed for 931. _________________ WBR, Shurick

Post the Bosch part numbers imprinted on the distributor housing, as that will help determine whether the items are NA or 931. At a minimum, I would expect the recurve to be different, particular if the replacement you've found is for a 931, and that may not be a good thing for your NA car. Also, be aware that after 1980, the US distributors were changed to use a hall effect sensor in conjunction with the updated digital ignition. Not sure if this was true for the ROW models, but if so, that will also be a problem. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Your picture illustrates a Variable Reluctor type distributor. This uses a 4 pole reluctor and a pickup coil to generate a signal for the Transistor Ignition Unit to process and ignite the coil.
The only electrical cause of a distributor "dying" is a faulty PU coil. A common Bosch part, as cheap as $20. Easily replaced by someone who knows what theyre doing.

Was the dizzy diagnosed as "dead" by a professional? Many novices start an expensive guessing game here. Tell us the symptoms if youre not positive.
The connector plug and wires are also a common problem. So are other connections, grounding, wiring, ignition switch or rarely a faulty TIU, coil or resistor.
Earlier US VR dizzys will fit and work but have very poor advance characteristics and subsequent performance, so best avoided. If you must get a S/H or rebuilt unit get one from Europe or UK. |

It was diagnosed by a professional. He said that the pickup coil wasn't working. I found one on the internet but i just thought that maybe it would be easier to change the whole thing. The price wasn't too much bigger either.
If anyone know where i could get the whole thing not for too much and that has shipping to Estonia then your help is welcome:) |

It would be EXTREMELY helpful if you would post the 10-digit Bosch part number stamped on the housing of the distributor. This way we can help you positively identify what you need. There is NO Porsche part number stamped on these, only the Bosch number. It will typically be something like this:
0 237 00X 0XX
For example, a US Series 2 931 distributor is 0 237 003 013
I have some other numbers at home...I thought there were some posted here, but they must've been in the for sale section and expired because I can't find the threads any more. If nothing else, post your number so we can add to the knowledge base. I've not been able to find a comprehensive or authoritative source that cross references the Bosch part numbers to the various 924 models, so you'd be helping yourself as well as potentially others by posting this info. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Interesting. Never seen one over here with a "002" in the middle grouping of numbers.
I think you're going to need to find a ROW source or get yours rebuilt by a Bosch rebuilder. Surely there's a rebuilder nearby? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I had the same problema as you. I bought an used distributor in eba.co.uk in an excellent condition. Check ebay.co.uk and ebay.com. It's common to find solenoid pickup distributors with good prices. _________________ Porsche 924 NA Euro. |
