When i bought my car the seal along to top of the rear hatch was broken and water would drip through. I took the hatch off, ripped the metal casing thing off, cleaned everything off and re-seated the hatch with new, stronger than oem, sealant and now it has busted in the same spot again. Can anyone help?
and if not anyone have a hatch for sale thats not leaking?

I have (knock on wood)!!! I re-attached the glass to the metal frame at the top where the glass meets the roofline last June. Mine was pretty bad, every bump in the road caused the glass to rub against the metal and it made a horrible screeching sound, not to mention the leaks when running through the car wash. I talked with a specialist at one of those auto glass shops and he suggested I try using the tube of 3M glass sealant and glass prep. These can be purchased at NAPA. I don't recall offhand the exact product names or part numbers, but I can get it for you if you like. I seem to recall there were 3 chemicals, the tube of sealant, small bottle of prep and small bottle of primer. THIS IS IMPORTANT............You MUST use 3 chemicals that are compatible with each other. The tube of 3M Sealant specified the 3M part numbers for the primer and prep. Cost was very reasonable, maybe under $40 usd for all 3 chemicals from NAPA.
I will try to recall the steps I took (no need to remove the glass hatch). Exact step-by-step procedure is given on the back of the tube of 3M Sealant:
1.) Open the hatch and pry open the glass to metal frame at the top of the glass near the roofline being carefull not to exert too much pressure and crack the glass.
2.) Clean the surfaces with cloth and alcohol as best you can. It is VERY important you remove all dirt and greasy film so the chemicals can adhere well. Don't rush this step.
3.) Apply Prep to glass and metal surfaces and wait a few minutes to set. You'll want to use a soft ball shaped applicator available at any auto glass shop. Again, specific wait times are given on the bottle.
4.) Apply Primer according to step 3 above. (The black Primer provides a good surface the Sealant can stick to)
5.) Using a cauking gun, apply Sealant somewhat liberally on the glass to metal surfaces.
6.) Open a window to provide pressure relief for when the hatch is closed.
7.) Close hatch gently, weight down the top of the glass and allow to cure overnight, preferably 12 hours minimum. Again, wait time is given on the tube of Sealant.
So far the "glue" has held perfectly even after driving events and trips in 100 degree hot summer sun. I still have some minor leaks to touch up that appear when going through those high pressure washers, but otherwise, it is leak free in rain. Hope this helps. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)

Never tried it. I did all my repairs with hatch and metal trim in place. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)
