tbh a very weak point on he 924 is the starter/alternator wire.
admittedly an earth fault is also quite likely.
I would imagine on a charged battery that starts the car easily you should be getting ...

One thing that is worth pointing out is the layout of all the ancillaries that are attached to the Lotus 900 series. The starter, the dizzy, water pump etc..
