I have no hole in my head!

I am in the middle of a rebuild. Head has yet to be tanked, etc.

Suggestions?

The heater hose solution scares me a little. Its very tempting though.

Okay, my friend measured the journals just now. He did not use the special micrometer with rollers, but got a measurement of just about right on 48mm.

the bearings just have an audi/vw symbols and 046 701 stamped on them.

The journals look good, feel really smooth. will post pics. I don't have a micrometer...

Hi Dan,

yeah, thanks for the epic effort. I have main bearings, so should be replacing the rod bearings as well.

Not sure what size yet though... If i use plastigauge on the bearing that are ...

Not sure what the junk could be, maybe grease of some sort... When I assembled mine, I coated the outside of the diaphragm with silicone based grease.
